Majestic Meghalaya

Bestowed with incredible attractions, Meghalaya is one of the most beautiful states in Northeast India.

Come; plan a trip to the capital city of Meghalaya, Shillong, which is popularly known as the Scotland of the East. Meghalaya is filled with numerous breathtaking attractions. On this trip, you can visit Cherrapunji, which is one of the wettest places on earth where you can explore its many amazing root bridges and waterfalls. You will even get to visit Mawlynnong, the cleanest village in Asia.

Furthermore, you will also visit the stunning Umngot River in Dawki located on India - Bangladesh Border. Moving ahead in the trip to Guwahati, you will visit the revered temple of Maa Kamakhya and also the mighty Brahmaputra River.

This 7-day trip to the northeast of India will be an astonishing experience of your life.

Day 1

Guwahati Airport / Rly Station - Shillong (100 km / 3 Hours.)

As soon as you arrive at the Guwahati Airport / Railway Station you will be transferred to Shillong, which is also called the "Scotland of the East". On the way, your first stop will be the majestic Umium Lake (Barapani).

You may do the water sports here (Optional). Later, you can drive to the hotel. After you check in at your hotel, you can rest for a while. In the evening, you can visit Police Bazaar which is the biggest local market and shop if you like something. You can then spend the night at the hotel and have a rest.

Shillong - Laitlum Canyons - Krang Suri Falls Shillong (115 kms/4 Hrs Per way)

Today after a delicious breakfast proceed to Laitlum Canyons for some breathtaking views. Don't forget to keep the camera handy with you to capture beautiful pictures.

The next destination is the Krang Suri Falls. It is one of the best waterfalls in Meghalaya. You can enjoy the scenic waterfall with a stunning view and even swim in it. Later, after having scrumptious lunch you return to the Shillong hotel and spend the overnight here.

Shillong - Mawsynram - Mawphlang Sacred forest - Shillong (60 km / 1.5 Hrs Per way)

Today is an adventurous day to explore a few of the forest areas here. After breakfast, you first visit Mawsynram, which as per the new geological reports, receives the highest rainfall in the world. This area is popularly known for its caves. The next checkpoint is Mawphlang Sacred Grove. It is one of the biggest Sacred Groves in Meghalaya.

Nothing can be taken out from this forest as it is being protected by the local deities. Later, you can visit Khasi model village and then in the evening return back to Shillong. On the way, one of the most ravishing places you can visit in Shillong is Elephanta Falls. It is a dramatic, multi-tiered waterfall in picturesque surroundings, with an easy walking trail and stairs.

Finally, after this tiring day, you can rest the whole night in your hotel.

Shillong - Dawki - Mawlynnong Village - Cherrapunji (120 km / 3 hrs)

After a refreshing breakfast with a stunning view get ready to visit Mawlynnong Village, the cleanest village in Asia. This cute and colourful little village is known for its cleanliness.

It is situated 90 km from Shillong and besides the picturesque village, it offers many interesting sights such as the Living Root Bridge and the strange natural phenomenon Of a boulder balancing on another rock.

After that, you can proceed to Dawki.  Dawki is along the Indo-Bangladesh border. Here you can enjoy boating in the crystal clear waters of the Umgnot River. Later that evening you will proceed to Cherrapunjee and spend overnight in Cherrapunjee itself.

Cherrapunjee

Get up early to enjoy the mesmerizing mornings of Cherrapunjee. This day is filled with fun activities. The list of places to visit starts with the visit to Echo Park, Dainthlen Falls, Nohkalikai Falls, the world-famous Nohsngithiang Falls (Seven Sisters Falls), Mawsmai Cave, and Thangkharang Park. You can stay overnight at Cherrapunjee and take a rest.

Optional Activity- Proceed for a full day trekking to the Double Decker Living Root Bridge at Nongriat Village. You will probably trek approx. 3200 steps each way to the Double Decker Living Root Bridge.

We can further trek down to the Rainbow Falls take about 60 to 90 minutes from the Double Decker Living Root Bridge.

Cherrapunjee - Guwahati (160 km / 4.5 hrs)

This day, after breakfast you will proceed to Guwahati. Upon arrival, you check in at The hotel. The day starts with the visit to Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra, a place where Assamese history and culture are presented. One may also visit the Assam Film Museum to know the History of Assamese Cinema.

The next stop is the GTAC Tea Lounge to enjoy a cup of the finest classic Assam Tea where you can also carry some tea back home. Here you will find the finest quality Organic, CTC, Orthodox, Green Tea, White Tea, Purple Tea etc.

In the evening, you may take a River Cruise (Direct Payment) on the mighty River Brahmaputra. Shopper-holics can end their wonderful day with a visit to the local market. Assam is famous for Assam silk particularly Golden Muga silk, Assam tea, bamboo and cane products. You can purchase any of these if it interests you and then rests overnight at Guwahati.

Hotel - Guwahati Airport / Rly Station

Today is the last day of your tour. After breakfast, you can visit the Kamakhya temple (Timing: 08:00 A.M till 01:00 P.M & 3:00 P.M till it gets dark). You will then be transferred to the Guwahati Airport / Railway Station for your onward journey.

(Note: In case of early morning departure, Kamakhya temple might be covered the previous day instead of visiting Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra Museum.)
